Perspective

(Prelude: There was an illustration of a detective investigating and he asked what the suspect looked like and a fat guy said he was skinny and a skinny guy said he looked fat and a homeless guy said he looked rich etc.. and we had to comment on that. Also, I saw this picture on the Internet and it spoke volumes to me and I hope it does to you too. 9/21/15)

Each person’s viewpoint is different because every person is different and had different experiences throughout their lives. That’s why we need to respect perspectives more, I think. Everyone has their own and they formulated it from their own personal life and it is what makes life diverse.

Those people answered the investigative questions relative to what they are and have to take that with a grain of salt. Our identity shapes our perspective by our shape. If you are fat, you might be jealous of skinny people and maybe even hate them. I wouldn’t consider myself skinny and I find myself envious of skinnier people sometimes. If you are short, you might have a chip on your shoulder because a lot of things are harder for you. I know a football player from my high school that was short, but he was one of the best on the team because he used his disadvantage to his advantage. If you are black, people automatically see you as a “black person” and box you into that. If you are white, people generally see you as a clean slate and could be or do anything. Unfortunately, that is the way it is. I think our perspective shapes our identity as well to a certain degree. I am really into everything that has to do with music, specifically rap. What I listen to makes me understand black people better and black people are largely in control of pop culture. Because I am influenced by them, I go out and buy what I think is cool because they make it cool. For example, I have two articles of clothing on right now that are solely because of a rapper and how they influenced my perspective. Thus, my clothes are a part of my identity. I identify with the “black culture” because my perspective is shaped by the music they make. I have found that if a person you really like or respect makes a mistake or has an imperfection, they make whatever that is cool to you.

Perspective plays a huge role in a person’s life. As well as, a person’s life plays a huge role in perspective. Perception is reality.
