INFJ

(Prelude: We had to take a Myers-Briggs test to see what personality type we are and had to write about what you thought of the results. 9/8/16)

It is really weird reading the description for INFJ personality. It feels like I’m reading a transcription of a psychic explaining who I am without even knowing me. I learned about predisposition only a few weeks ago and I was kind of concerned because I could give you instances from different events in my life of each of the disposition elements in all the different categories. Therefore, I thought maybe I had too much personality or maybe even not enough. But the personality test told me otherwise because I’m introverted, intuitive, feeling and judging.

It’s comforting to know I fit perfectly in a personality type. I’m sure I have traits of other personality types as well, but this one is me all the way. There's an inherent confidence in knowing who you are. I was very aware of myself before, but having all this knowledge at once is like a surge of confidence. I feel being an only child shaped who I am because I’m alone a lot. As a result, it is a large reason why I am introspective and introverted. I have no one to focus my attention on, so I focus inward, which could be dangerous at times. I can get good at a sport or game really quickly, which speaks to my intuitiveness. I noticed early on that I am very impressionable. I think that has to do with how empathetic I am. I can feel what other people are feeling and what their thought process is. I can absorb people's personalities relatively easily and I can even write in someone else's voice. I think because I am like that, I could be a good actor. I can get in touch with my feelings. On the other hand, I am very self aware which means I could also go the other direction and think too much about how long my arms are and not know what to do with them. The description said INFJ is a very unique personality because it almost contradicts itself. I can be very self aware, yet I can also get lost in a character. I was really relieved that the arts was one of my suggested occupations because that is something I am very interested in. Jerry Seinfeld shares the same personality type as I do and that excites me because I find him very interesting and funny.

Reading the type description definitely had some jaw dropping, leaning back in chair and also the occasional “Oh my” moments. I recommend everyone take this test no matter who or how old you are. It really allows you to learn things about yourself and also realize things you never verbalized before.
